A Washington woman who allegedly killed her 14-year-old son last month beat him until his heart stopped, prosecutors said on Tuesday.

Da’metrius Robinson died shortly after he was found unresponsive at his Seattle apartment on January 30. The boy’s heart stopped after his mother, Denaya Young, 29, beat him with an extension cord for three hours for not finishing his chores, according to KIRO.

King County medical examiners determined Robinson suffered 1,172 injuries and likely died from sudden inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) or distributive shock — which occurs when blood is sent to so many injured areas in the body that there is not enough to sustain the heart.

Young allegedly beat Robinson with an HDMI cord for three hours. KENS reported that Robinson begged his mother to stop because he was dizzy, but she thought he was lying.

Robinson’s three siblings and Young’s boyfriend witnessed or heard the beating. Young’s boyfriend allegedly told police that he did not intervene because he thought it was best to mind his business.

“I don’t want to jump in, and then I’m getting jumped on, you feel? I’m not even trying to have that type of day,” he said, according to KENS.

Young allegedly told police that she previously choked and punched Robinson. She also claimed it was not the first time she beat her son with an HDMI cord, KENS reported.

Robinson visited his mother in August 2024. KIRO reported that he never returned to his aunt, who is his legal guardian.

Young, whose bail is set at $3 million, is charged with second-degree murder. She is due back in court on February 13.
