Justin Jefferson surprises veteran with tickets to the Super Bowl

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A Dell Rapids mother and her daughter are about to embark on a trip of a lifetime; the Super Bowl.

They’ll be in New Orleans to watch the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. And the best part for them, it’s all paid for.

“I was kind of in shock, because I didn’t expect that,” Kim Hubers said.

Hubers is still in disbelief that she and her 18-year-old daughter Aubrey will be going to this year’s Super Bowl, thanks to Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson.

He partnered with VISA, USAA and the Disabled American Veterans organization to pay for her trip.

Why would he do that?

Well, you see, Kim may be wearing Justin Jefferson’s jersey today, but at one time she wore a different kind of uniform; this one.

Hubers was a Staff Sergeant in the National Guard and was severely injured in 2003 while serving in Iraq.

“Not only did I come back with fractures in my spine and TBI from the compressions of our truck, but I had a lot of exposures over there that caused me to have a lot of autoimmune issues, there’s pretty much not one part of my body that’s not affected by my service,” Hubers said.

After being medically discharged, Hubers went on to work with the DAV and has helped countless disabled veterans over the last few years.

Jefferson released this statement about Hubers and her service to our country.

“I’m humbled by the love and recognition I receive from our team’s supporters and wanted to return the favor by shining a spotlight on SSG Kim Hubers, a truly inspiring fan who always puts others before herself,” Jefferson said in a release. “It’s a special honor to team up with USAA, Visa and Disabled American Veterans to recognize Kim for being a great community leader, mother, patriot, and my #1 fan, with this trip to the Super Bowl in New Orleans!”

Hubers will get a chance to meet Jefferson at the Super Bowl, along with other legends of the game, but so will her daughter, who is not only appreciative but proud.

“Just everything that she does for everybody and obviously her service and all that stress that caused it and she’s still going every day and acting like it never happened, she just helps everybody every chance she gets,” Aubrey said.

“The best thing for me in all of this my daughter is a massive football fan and I get to see a dream come true for her that I could have never provided for her,” Kim said.

Hubers gave us her prediction on who’s going to win the big game; she said Eagles by a score of 51-32.
