Celebrity chef and restaurant owner James Martin will be turning his attentions from his TV show to focus on his upcoming tour – and shuddered at the prospect of being ‘rubbish’ on stage.

During an interview with the Cotswold Life magazine, the popular chef shared his thoughts on what is set to be his fifth tour across England, Wales and Scotland this year, but revealed some trepidation at the prospect.

Reeling off some of the prestigious venues that he is due to appear at this year, he said: “Every show is special. When I look at the list of places we’ll be going to this year, they are serious venues — Birmingham Symphony Hall, Newcastle 02, Bridgewater Hall in Manchester.”

Martin shuddered at the prospect of letting down his audience as he added: “If I walked out there and was rubbish…”.

As he continued to talk of his excitement and pride at being able to fill stadiums, James shared how fans can expect a very different experience than they do watching his weekly Saturday morning show on ITV: “People think the live shows are going to be like my Saturday morning show, but it’s really not — it’s fast-paced, fun comedy, made by a great team and it is really cool.”

James also shared a heart-warming 360 moment as his as his family watched on from the stands as he performed in front of fans at the London Palladium in recent years: “On my last tour we played a Sunday night at The London Palladium. Walking out on that stage, seeing my mum and dad in the audience was magical. They knew how much I had worked and for how long to get there.”

James’ impressive path to becoming one of the country’s most well-known TV chefs began when he started training to become a chef in France. In the years that followed, he soon earned himself roles in a number of high-end restaurants, but, it was aged 24 that he first ventured into the world of television, when he starred in his own show, James Martin: Yorkshire’s Finest.

However, it was hosting his weekly James Martin’s Saturday Morning on ITV and BBC’s Saturday Kitchen that the chef became a household name.

Away from his TV work, James also owns his own pubs and restaurants, including the likes of The Lygon Arms and The Kitchen at Chewton Glen.

James Martin’s Saturday Morning returns today (February 8) on ITV at 9.30am.
