Update 12:30 p.m.

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — The Urbana Police Department said they do not believe that two shootings, which happened over the weekend in Urbana, are connected.

On Friday night, an 18-year-old was shot and killed near Vawter and Silver Streets in Urbana. The next night, two people were shot and killed near Lanore Drive. Police said that while they are investigating both incidents, they likely are not connected.

The Saturday night shooting, which left a 7-year-old, and 43-year-old dead is believed to be the result of a domestic violence situation, according to police. Police also said the suspect involved was known to the occupants of the home. Because of this, the police said they do not believe it was a random act.

The Urbana Police Department asks that anyone with information to come forward. To contact the police department, call 217-384-2320. To submit an anonymous tip, contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 217-373-8477, visit their website or the “P3 Tips” mobile app.

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Urbana police say two people are dead after a home invasion and shooting in Urbana Saturday evening.

Officials say that police initially responded to the 900 block of Lanore Drive before 8:00 p.m. for a report of a shooting with injuries. That’s just south of the Brookens Administrative Center near the intersection of Lanore and Washington.

Once on scene, officers found a 7-year-old child who was struck by gunfire. That child was then immediately transported to the hospital, later succumbing to their wounds.

After the child was transported to the hospital, a 43-year-old Urbana man was also found near the scene with gunshot wounds. That adult was also transported to the hospital where he also succumbed to his wounds.

The identities of both individuals are being withheld pending family notifications.

This comes after an 18-year-old was also killed in Urbana on Friday night in a separate shooting.

Police say that the initial investigation shows that the shooting was derived from a home invasion, but additional information was not available regarding those circumstances. This is an ongoing investigation. The Criminal Investigations Division is handling it now.

Officers continue to canvass the surrounding area for witnesses and video footage that may help with their investigation. Any residents or businesses in the nearby area with any exterior surveillance camera systems are encouraged to notify the Urbana Police Department.

The department’s nonemergency number is 217-384-2320. Alternatively, anyone wanting to remain anonymous can submit a tip to Champaign County Crime Stoppers through the following methods:

  • Calling 217-373-8477
  • Visiting Crime Stoppers’ website
