Jaguars Tight End Evan Engram was the headliner at a watch party at Daily’s Place Sunday night.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Super Bowl may have been about 500 miles away from Jacksonville in New Orleans, but there were still plenty of vibes in Jacksonville with a fan fest watch party sponsored by Verizon going at Daily’s Place for the big game.

It begs the question, ‘When will we see the real deal, the Super Bowl, in Jacksonville again?’

“It will be here one day,” said Chiefs Fan Breona Coats. “It’s not a possibility, it will be.”

Coats made her way to Daily’s Place to cheer on the Chiefs at the Fan Fest Super Bowl watch party.

She may have been watching this game on a big screen, but she’s confident one day she’ll see the biggest game of the year live and in person in Jacksonville.

“What year? Well, 2028…give us until 2035,” said Coats.

This year marks 20 years since Jacksonville’s first and only time hosting the Super Bowl in 2005.

Mayor Donna Deegan’s Chief of Staff Mike Weinstein says he remembers applying to host back in 2000.

He figures city leaders won’t submit another application until stadium renovations are complete in 2028.

“The NFL definitely would want to see the stadium, see it operating, make sure there’s an adequate number of suits and premium seats, but if we do the stadium as we’re designing it and building it as we speak, we have a facility that’s appropriate for a Super Bowl,” said Weinstein.

“I think, this stadium when they’re done is probably going to be the best stadium in the league,” said Jaguars End Evan Engram.

Engram was cheering on his old teammate Saquon Barkley and the Eagles at Fan Fest, but he wouldn’t mind seeing the Super Bowl in Jacksonville when the renovations are done.

He wouldn’t mind playing in it either.

“It’s going to be a long grind getting that thing up,” said Engram. “We’re going to see so many different stages of it being built. That will be good motivation for us to continue to work.”

Of course, the new stadium will be able to host more than the Super Bowl – which has folks dreaming about what other events we may see come to the River City.

“I would think, maybe down the line, once the World Cup kind of makes its way back to the U.S., that Jacksonville is able to host some games here,” said Engram.

“Maybe one of those outdoor hockey games that they did down in Tampa,” said Jaguars fan Jim Malinowski. “The holiday hockey game? That’d be cool.”

“You know what, I think Beyoncé and Taylor Swift should do something together,” said Coats.

Earlier this week, Jacksonville City Council member Jimmy Peluso said perhaps an NFL draft could be a good warm-up to hosting the Super Bowl at the new stadium so folks could visualize what that could look like.
