Crews will replace a 24-inch water main along San Jose Boulevard between Old River Road and Claire Lane in a project slated to begin Monday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — JEA announced that a water main replacement along San Jose Boulevard will impact drivers for months, as lane closures and detours will be put in place beginning Monday.

JEA crews will replace a 24-inch water main along San Jose Boulevard between Old River Road and Claire Lane. The project is expected to last about three months, officials said.

One traffic lane in each direction of San Jose Boulevard will be closed at times between Interstate 295 and Ricky Road during construction. Lane closures will occur as required, between 8:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. or 9 p.m. to 8 a.m., officials said.

Median and turn lanes inside the designated work zone will be closed during the monthslong project.

Officials said road closures are subject to change, as crews will work extended or weekend work hours in order to expedite the project and minimize impact on the public.

Drivers are encouraged to plan for traffic delays and consider seeking alternate routes when possible. Officials added that speed limits will be reduced to 35 mph during construction.

The project comes after crews made an emergency repair to the water main in July. Officials said after further evaluation, JEA determined that a full replacement of the pipe was required to maintain the reliability of the water systems and to prevent future outages and traffic disruptions.

The work will not affect customer’s regular water, sewer or electric service, according to officials. In the event any planned water outages are necessary, officials will notify impacted customers 48 hours in advance.

The project is expected to be completed in May.
