Crime Stoppers seeking tips on Urbana TV theft

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Urbana Police and Champaign County Crime Stoppers are asking for the public’s help in finding the people who stole a TV from Urbana’s Meijer last month.

Officials said the theft happened on Jan. 18 just before 8 p.m. Three men entered the store, walked to the electronics section and picked out a 50-inch TV. Two of the men distracted an employee while the third walked out the store with the $200 TV.

The suspects were all described as being Black men between the ages of 18 and 25. They were wearing the following clothes:

  • Suspect 1 — a gray hoodie, black jeans and black shoes
  • Suspect 2 — a blue Champion hoodie, black jeans, black shoes and a medical mask
  • Suspect 3 — a black puffy jacket gray “distressed” jeans, black shoes and a medical mask

A photo of the suspect who carried the TV out of the store was provided by Crime Stoppers. They did not provide photos of the other two suspects.

Anyone who has information on this or any other crime in Champaign County is asked to contact Champaign County Crime Stoppers. Tips can be submitted to them by calling 217-373-8477, visiting their website or using the P3 Tips app.

Any tip that is submitted to Crime Stoppers is both anonymous to law enforcement and eligible for a cash reward if the tip leads to an arrest.
