PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Hungry Oregon residents gathered outside the iconic Bob’s Red Mill Store in Milwaukie Sunday for one last chance at eating in their cafe.
Bob’s Red Mill first started in 1978 and on Saturday it was announced they would be closing their restaurant and whole grain store which opened in the early 2000s.
A crowd gathered outside the restaurant on Sunday, the final day of operation, to visit one last time.
Some people in line told affiliate KOIN that they had been waiting in line for over three hours to get in.
The Saum family, one of the many waiting in line, told KOIN that they have been going to the restaurant for many years and that losing the restaurant feels like a blow to the community.
“It’s really sad, it’s part of our family history and we’ve been coming here every few weeks for over a decade,” said Carrie Saum. “To see them closing, it feels kind of like a blow to what makes Portland and the Portland area unique and wonderful.”
The Whole Grain Store remains open until Feb 17 and everything in the store is 50% to 60% off for senior citizens.
