The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says the man is in his early-20s and is stable after being shot “near the buttocks.”
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man was shot and hospitalized early Tuesday morning after being followed by two men in a black Dodge sedan on Atlantic Boulevard, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
JSO Sergeant Johnson said that around 1:07 a.m., officers responded to Palm at Beacon Pointe Apartment Homes, located at 1251 Beacon Point Dr., in reference to the man who was shot. When they arrived, the man was taken to a local hospital by members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department; he was shot “near the buttocks” and is “stable,” Johnson told First Coast News.
JSO says its initial investigation into the incident has revealed that the man who is in his early-20s, was being followed by “known individuals.” He pulled his vehicle over into a parking lot in the 9300 block of Atlantic Boulevard, as Johnson says the Dodge sedan then approached the man’s vehicle and one of the individuals inside fired a shot at the man.
The man then drove to the Beacon Pointe after being shot and called JSO, as the Dodge sedan “fled the area in an unknown direction,” according to Johnson.
The incident was not gang-related, Johnson said, but when asked if it was drug-related, the sergeant said “we’re still working through all that right now.”
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500. To provide information anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
