When Will Survivor 48’s Premiere Episode Air?
Since Survivor 47’s finale aired on December 18th, 2024, the show’s dedicated fans have been wondering when they will get to see more. Thankfully, for people who can’t get enough of Survivor, they won’t have to wait much longer for new episodes.
According to a February 2025 Parade article, Survivor 48’s premiere episode will air on February 26th, 2025. Passionate Survivor fans won’t be surprised to learn that means the episode will premiere on a Wednesday.
After Survivor 48 premieres on CBS, the show’s fans who are subscribers to Paramount+ will be able to watch and enjoy it at their leisure.
According to the Paramount+ website, the popular streaming service is available in many countries around the world. Furthermore, the website states that Paramount+ regularly becomes available in new markets.
During past Survivor seasons, the episodes have been available to stream on Paramount+ the day after they premiered on CBS. However, since that hasn’t been confirmed by the team behind the show, CBS, or Paramount+, that could change with Survivor 48.
How Long Will Survivor 48’s Episodes Be?

While details about Survivor 48’s finale episode have yet to be reported on, it almost certainly will also be longer. Survivor finales have been two hours long and followed up by an additional hour of the show that features the reunion or post-show.
During Survivor 47, fans got to see every regular season episode be 90 minutes long with commercial breaks for the first time. The majority of fans welcomed the longer episodes because they resulted in better storytelling for fans.
In February 2024, Jeff Probst told Entertainment Weekly that he believed 90 minutes is the perfect length for regular season Survivor episodes. “That’s what it felt like, because instead of an idol hunt lasting for 90 seconds, you could let it play for four minutes. And in that extra time, you got to see inside the person, the panic, how they dealt with it, the dirt on their fingernails, and digging one more time, and here comes somebody — all of those are things that in a 60-minute episode we’d have to say, ‘We don’t have time for it. It doesn’t really matter.’ But then when you see it, you’re like, ‘Well, it does matter!’ I think 90 minutes is a great sweet spot for an episode of Survivor.”
Most importantly, the longer episodes have allowed fans to learn more about the players, which influences how they perceive the game.
What Is The Format Of Survivor 48’s Tribes?
Since Survivor premiered, the show has featured many different tribe formats during the premiere episode. As a result, Survivor fans can sometimes be curious about what a new season’s tribe format will be at the start.
Throughout Survivor history, seasons have started with the players broken up as members of between two and four different tribes.
Since Survivor’s so-called “new era” began, every season to date has started with three starting tribes. Survivor: Winners at War, the 40th season, was the last one to begin with two tribes.
According to the Survivor wiki, Survivor 48 will begin with the players broken up between three tribes.
Since Survivor 48 will begin with three tribes, that limits the number of castaways that it makes sense for the season to feature.
Throughout Survivor’s history, every season has had 16, 18, or 20 players. In theory, Survivor 48 could have done what Survivor: Palau did and still feature three tribes. During Survivor: Palau, the season began with 20 players only to have two players immediately eliminated before they even got to compete.
With that in mind, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Survivor 48 will begin with 18 players.
The Survivor wiki reveals what the names of Survivor 48’s three tribes will be when the season begins.
The names of Survivor 48’s three initial tribes will be named Lagi, Vula, and Civa.
When Was Survivor 48 Filmed?
As every Survivor fan should already know, each season is filmed months before it premieres. According to Parade’s aforementioned article about the upcoming season’s premiere, Survivor 48 was filmed between May and June 20224.
Considering everything that needs to be accomplished for a season of Survivor to air, it is mind-blowing that they air so soon after they are filmed. After all, each season of Survivor is captured by a slew of camera crews who film thousands of hours of footage combined.
It takes an incredible amount of planning and organization to be able to edit all that footage into the episodes of Survivor 48 fans will see.
