Ayda Field, the wife of singer Robbie Williams, opened up about a heartbreaking phone call that brought a temporary halt to their budding relationship during a trying period before they ultimately reunited and went on to have four children together.

In 2023, fans were granted an intimate look into the life of the ex-Take That sensation, highlighting his rise to stardom, eventual departure from the band, his struggles with substance abuse, and family life through his Netflix documentary, Robbie Williams.

Ayda featured prominently in the four-part series, which celebrated a quarter-century of Robbie’s triumphs as a solo artist and provided insight into life with their children: Theodora, Charlton, Colette, and Beau.

Promising “30 years of unseen footage” and described as “raw,” the docu-series offered an in-depth view of Robbie’s personal battle with addiction and its effects on Ayda, to whom he’s been wed since 2010.

Reflecting on the first time she witnessed Robbie take drugs, Ayda remarked: “It was my entry into addiction. You wouldn’t notice his personality change but suddenly, he’d be throwing up while watching TV.”

Robbie himself confessed to falling into despair as his addiction grew increasingly unmanageable, reports OK!.

He shared with viewers: “There was a sense of… It would be better if I passed away, I didn’t care and it would be alright,” adding: “For me to change I’d need to be dying, die or stop what you’re doing.”

The challenging period strained their bond when Robbie phoned Ayda in the early hours to inform her that his team had decided to send him to rehab. This pivotal moment occurred just before he turned 33.

Ayda recounted the memory: “I remember it was 2am and I called him and I was like, ‘I am just getting on the highway’ and he’s like, ‘Are you driving? Call me when you get home’.”

Detailing the painful conversation, she continued: “And he is like, ‘I can’t be in a relationship, I have to get better and I can’t be with you. I have to break up with you’.”

Ayda confessed that the devastating call left her utterly “so crestfallen” as Robbie was her “soulmate and then he was gone”.

She further explained her feelings at the time: “It was like, I understood it because I saw that he was unwell and I remember thinking, ‘I just want you to get better’.”

Fortunately, this wasn’t the end for the couple; they eventually rekindled their love, expanded their family with four children, and now share a stronger bond than ever.
