() Social media platform X will pay President Donald Trump $10 million to settle a lawsuit over the suspension of his account after the Jan. 6 riots.

X. then known as Twitter, banned the president’s account over a risk that it would incite more violence. The permanent suspension lasted nearly two years.

Billionaire Elon Musk reinstated Trump’s account after he bought the platform.

In 2021, Trump sued the platform, saying the suspension violated his First Amendment rights. The lawsuit was dismissed in 2022, but Trump’s lawyers appealed. As of this week, the Wall Street Journal reported the appeal was still pending.

Musk restored Trump’s account shortly after he bought the platform.

Trump now heads up the controversial Department of Government Efficiency which has been given broad access to U.S. government systems in an effort to eliminate things the president deems wasteful.

X is not the only social media network to settle with the president because of account suspensions for posts that violate the terms of service. Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, paid Trump $25 million to settle a lawsuit.
