The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says the man and woman knew each other and were both staying at the hotel.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is dead and woman is recovering after both were shot at a hotel on Jacksonville’s Southside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Sergeant Ray Reeves told First Coast News that just after midnight Friday, patrol officers responded to Hometown Inn & Suites, located at 4940 Mustang Rd., in reference to the man who was shot.
When they arrived, the man was found with a gunshot wound, as members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department then responded to the hotel and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Reeves said the woman was then found with multiple gunshot wounds; she was taken to a local hospital and is “stable.” He added that JSO detectives are speaking with her.
“According to witnesses, we have a suspect,” Reeves said. “According to them, a Black male wearing a hoodie in his late-20s, early-30s, was at least the description given on scene.”
When asked how the suspect got away, Reeves said: “We are working on video surveillance at this time.”
Reeves said the man and woman knew each other and were both staying at the hotel. JSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units are conducting an investigation into the incident.
