CHAMPAIGN-URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Several businesses in Champaign County received yellow Food Safety Alerts after inspectors found health code violations this week.

Three restaurants and two senior living facilities were given warnings after “less than satisfactory” inspections.

Oozu Ramen

On Monday, Oozu Ramen, located at 601 S Sixth St. in Champaign, was given a yellow Food Safety Alert placard because of a repeated violation. For the third time in a routine inspection, raw chicken was found cooling in cold holding equipment instead of rapid cooling methods.

Other issues during Monday’s inspection included the dish machine not dispensing chlorine sanitizer, containers of raw chicken stored above containers of raw shelled eggs and a small amount of black soilage on the white plastic panel in the ice machine.

A follow-up inspection will be done 5-7 days after the original inspection to ensure the violation has been corrected.

Zhangliang DIY Malatang

On Tuesday, Zhangliang Malatang, located at 607 S. Sixth St. in Champaign, received a yellow Food Safety Alert placard after two repeated violations.

The restaurant had multiple “cold holding” issues. The tofu, lettuce and cabbage, lobster balls and tomatoes were at improper temperatures. The inspector also found that a food delivery had arrived around 12:30 p.m. and was still sitting outside an hour later.

And, for the third time in an inspection, the dish machine was dispensing chlorine sanitizer at a concentration of 200 ppm, rather than the required 100 ppm.

Other issues the inspector noticed included raw fish stored above ginger in the walk-in cooler, blow torches stored above cans of food and rusted blades on the “Ninja” blender.

A health inspector will conduct a follow-up inspection in 5-7 business days.

Taste of Thai

On Wednesday, a restaurant in Rantoul also earned a yellow Food Safety Alert.

Taste of Thai, located at 112 E Congress Ave. in Rantoul needed to demonstrate that they had eliminated cockroaches with two consecutive pest control reports. But the completed corrections were not made in time, and a yellow notice was posted.

Now, the restaurant needs to show two consecutive pest control reports with “no live activity” by Feb. 26. If the corrections are not made in time, the health permit will be suspended, and the restaurant will receive a red notice.

On Monday, the health inspector found that for the third time in a row, hard boiled eggs and chicken alfredo were held at temperatures below the proper level, earning the facility a yellow Food Safety Alert.

Other issues that the inspector noted included employees touching their faces without washing their hands before resuming food service, the hand washing sink in the kitchen was out of hand soap, plastic containers of whole milk were found above the proper temperature, and multiple gnats found in the ware washing area, hot holding service area and back preparation area.

A follow up inspection will be done be done in 5-7 business days to verify the violation was corrected.

Autumn Fields Savoy

Autumn Fields Adult Community is an assisted living facility in Savoy, located at 65 E Airport Road. They received a yellow Food Safety Alert after several food items were found to be at an improper temperature during an inspection on Wednesday.

The inspector also noted that marinara sauce was found past the 7-day use period, a spray bottle with clear liquid was not labeled and the person in charge was not able to identify it, and the white plastic panel of the ice machine in the back of the kitchen had yellow-orange slimy residue.

A follow-up inspection will be done in 5-7 days to verify the long-term corrections have been made.
