USPS customers are raging after a mailman was caught on camera flinging packages over a fence – repeatedly.

Multiple videos show the mail carrier tossing deliveries over a fence, sparking outrage and raising serious questions about delivery standards.

Nicole Mildner, a resident of Canaryville, Chicago shared her frustration over the repeated careless deliveries.

On August 21, 2023, two packages were thrown over her fence with such force that they landed on her lawn.

Mildner, who captured the incident on her Ring doorbell camera, was left frustrated and concerned.

“It’s like the first time you can chalk it up to an accident, but after that, it’s clear something’s off,” Mildner told CBS News Chicago.

The same thing happened on October 16, 2023, and later again on August 2, 2024.

But it was on January 10, 2025, when five packages were thrown onto the snow-covered yard, sparking a bigger outcry.

Despite the gate being wide open and easily accessible, the mailman chose to throw the packages instead of delivering them directly to the doorstep.

Mildner questioned the postal worker’s decision-making, particularly when he marked some items as undeliverable, including a coat and shoe rack.

“There’s no lock on the gate. There’s nothing blocking him from delivering the package,” said Mildner, “so that’s another aspect of it too when he marks it that way.”

“He just refused to deliver it. He marked it one day as undeliverable,” Mildner said.

USPS customers have been left raging over issues with their mail

“After that, I had to go in there and schedule multiple re-deliveries.”

While none of the packages have been damaged, Mildner expressed her frustration, wanting a solution to prevent further incidents.

“Training,” she said, “or I mean, if he doesn’t like this route, I guess a different route.”

Despite filing multiple complaints with USPS since 2022, Mildner’s concerns have yet to be addressed.

She mentioned that USPS had assured her that the mailman was spoken to, but nothing seemed to change.

“So if they’re actually having talks with him, then he knows these complaints are coming through and so, like I said, at this point, I think he just doesn’t care because he knows he can get away with it.”

A USPS spokesperson said that if a package cannot fit in the mailbox, the carrier is supposed to knock and deliver it to the recipient, reported CBS News Chicago.

Avoiding mail theft

To prevent mail theft, the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) recommends residents take several precautions.

  • First, avoid letting mail sit in your mailbox—inspect it daily and remove it promptly.
  • For package deliveries, track shipments on the USPS website and sign up for email or text alerts to stay informed.
  • If you’re not home when your mail is scheduled to arrive, consider asking a trusted neighbor to pick it up for you.
  • For longer absences, you can have your mail held at the Post Office by requesting this service online.
  • If valuable mail such as checks doesn’t arrive, immediately reach out to the issuing agency.
  • It’s also crucial to update your address with the Post Office and any businesses you regularly correspond with to avoid potential issues.
  • Lastly, for outgoing mail, it’s safer to hand it directly to your letter carrier or deposit it inside your local Post Office for added security.

However, that clearly wasn’t the case in Mildner’s situation, where packages were simply tossed aside without any attempt to hand them over properly.

Mildner’s complaints are not limited to her own deliveries, as she suspects the mailman may have mistreated packages belonging to her downstairs neighbors as well.

Mildner said that packages for her downstairs neighbors may have also been thrown over the front fence.

USPS’ mixed responses and the mailman’s repeated actions have left Mildner wondering if her concerns will ever be addressed.

Despite the agency’s promises to resolve the issue, the situation seems far from settled.

The USPS did not immediately respond to The U.S. Sun’s request for comment regarding the ongoing investigation.
