Love Is Blind Season 8 Episode 1 Recap

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the pods are finally open again on Love Is Blind. This time, on Season 8 of the reality TV show, we’re following singles in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota.

In the first episode, things are off to a bang. One need look no further than the episode’s title to get a sense of the drama that’s in store — that of “I Have A Husband.”

There’s A Whole Lot More To Love This Season

At the top of the episode, we learn that this season figures the biggest cast in the franchise’s history. The first duo we get to see is a man named Daniel and a woman named Taylor. Daniel tells the cameras that he’s been passed over for only being 5’8 in the past, so he was very interested in a blind dating experiment.

For her part, Taylor is a nurse who says she’s “so ready” to find her person. We’re also introduced to Devin and Brittany, who hit it off over their love for playing basketball and playing with kids. It turns out that the Twin Cities might be a small circle — Devin learns that one of the women, Virginia, went to his high school, though they didn’t overlap in their time there.

Virginia is a doctor who tells the cameras why she finds the experiment meaningful:

These bodies are just on loan to us. This is not who we are. It rarely reflects who you are on the inside.

Another cast member to watch seems to be Joey, a self-proclaimed “golden retriever” with very high energy. The cast member who seems like his polar opposite is David, who says he’s been an “a**” to women in the past and starts his pod dates by asking the other person “what’s wrong” with them. That said, he’s trying to change his behavior and put his best foot forward in dating now.

The Pod Dates Get Serious

As the pod dates advance, Daniel hits it off with Madison, an independent woman whose parents struggled with addiction while she was growing up. Daniel opens up about how he used to be ugly and bullied in middle school, and Madison says she can relate to being an outcast, noting it’s what pushed her to pursue the arts, as she now works as a painter. She also has a potential connection with Mason, a cinematographer who understands the creative world.

Mason’s other connection is with Meg, with whom he can joke around and be goofy. At the end of their date, Mason appears to be on cloud nine:

I can’t even explain how happy I am.

Meanwhile, a woman named Molly is hitting it off with David, as they learn they had similar upbringings. He also seems to be forming a dynamic with Lauren, a 6th grade reading teacher who shows immense patience with him.

Already it seems like people are narrowing down their top matches. Daniel tells Taylor she has all the qualities he’s looking for in a partner. Joey and Monica also appear to be getting more and more comfortable with one another on their dates, finding more similarities between them and laughing nonstop. He even alludes to “when” Monica will meet his mother, showing which direction his thinking is heading.

The biggest wild card this season seems to be David, who clearly has treated partners poorly in the past but vows to do better and be less “shallow” going forward. As Lauren and Molly continue to pique his interest, will he actually allow himself to admit that he’s developing strong feelings for someone else?

Another big decision will come for Brittany, who’s clearly taken a liking to Devin but needs to decide if being with a man who’s five years her junior is a dealbreaker for her. How young is too young for her ideal relationship?
