ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida man and his service dog are lucky to be alive after they survived a coyote attack while out on a walk.

According to NBC affiliate WESH, Chris Mack and his boxer, Bohdi, were out on a late-night walk along Leatherwood Drive in Altamonte Springs around 11 p.m. on Wednesday.

Mack told WESH he spotted three coyotes, two appearing from each end of the street, and the third from a nearby wooded area.

Bohdi charged after one of the coyotes, pulling his owner to the ground and causing scrapes to his face and arms.

“I took a hard knock. [Bodhi] took off with so much force that the dog took me with it, and at the same time, it let this one creep a little closer to me because I was on the ground,” Mack said referencing the second coyote. “I called for him to return, and he came in like a bullet. When a 95-pound dog comes at you at 35 miles per hour. You’re like a bowling pin. So the coyote took off well. He got pushed bull-dosed three and a half to four feet.”

Bohdi successfully chased away the coyotes, but Mack is certain they will return with all the new developments in the area.

“We are building so fast. You can’t expect these animals not to be around. When you take their space, you can’t expect them to poof disappear,” Mack told WESH.

No further details on the attack were made available.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating. WFLA.com has reached out for more information.
