A man is lucky to be alive after flipping his vintage car, flying through the air and ploughing into a neighbour’s fence in Melbourne‘s south-east.

Residents ran from all directions around 7pm yesterday to help the 38-year-old driver who was trapped behind the wheel.

The 1974 Holden Sedan was captured only seconds earlier on CCTV, flying down a Narre Warren street before the driver lost control.

The car uprooted a tree, flattened a road sign, and smashed into someone’s front fence during the incident.

“Just heard this roaring noise like it was the Grand Prix,” Richard told 9News.

The SES called in to cut the man free from the mangled wreckage, so paramedics could treat him.

He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“The car was just so flattened my son said to me ‘there’s no way anyone in that car would be alive’,” Natalie added.

The sound of hoons speeding down Darling Way is an all to familiar to those who live in the area.

Residents say the speed hump is in the wrong spot and are calling for another hump to be placed on the straight stretch of road to slow down drivers.

“There’s no point putting a speed hump in a bend where everybody is going slowly, let’s put the speed hump where it can actually make a difference,” Natalie said.
