A manhunt is under way after a man was seriously injured in a shooting in Melbourne’s south-east overnight.

Police said three men attended an address on Ripplebrook Walk in Pakenham just after 1am today.

An altercation is believed to have broken out between the three men and the home’s occupant, resulting in one of the trio being shot.

The man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries and he remains under police guard.

The two other men are believed to have fled the scene and remain at large.

The occupant remained at the property and will be interviewed by police. 

Other people were present at the home at the time of the shooting, but they were not physically injured, police said. 

A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances behind the shooting has been launched.
