Fresh polling today reveals Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has gained critical ground in his quest to win key marginal seats ahead of the federal election.

Polling released from Redbridge today found the Coalition is leading Labor 52 per cent to 48 per cent on a two-party preferred basis.

On primary votes, Labor sank in the polls to 33 per cent, with the Greens on 12 per cent, the polling found.

The LNP looks to be closing in on Labor in 20 key electorates and the boost is believed to be buoyed by voters who think the Coalition would be better than the Albanese government at handling three big issues: cost of living, housing and healthcare.

Nationals leader David Littleproud said Australian voters were looking to go “back to basics” as the 2025 federal election inches closer.

“What we’ve got to do is continue to articulate the common sense solutions to address that cost of living,” Littleproud told Weekend Today.

“Just getting back to some basics, so we take some encouragement out of it. It’s a long way to go and it’s not uniform.

“Obviously this is going to sharpen up, particularly when the election is called.”

The new Coalition lead in the polling is not yet enough to secure Dutton the 19 extra seats he will need to win a majority government.

Dutton said last month he was willing to negotiate with independents if he falls short of forming a majority on election day.

“We want to form a majority government. If we’re not able to form a majority government, then you’re in a position where you have to negotiate with the independents, and that’s just being honest with the Australian public,” Dutton said while campaigning in South Australia.
