Netflix actress Kim Sae-ron found dead years after drunk driving crash

A popular South Korean actress who was forced into hiding following a drunk driving crash was found dead in her home on Sunday.

Kim Sae-ron, 24, was discovered in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, by a friend who had plans to meet her, Yonhap News Agency reported.

But, took a step back from acting after drunkenly crashing her car into a roadside electrical transformer box in May 2022, South China Morning Post reported.

The crashed caused public humiliation that drove her out of the limelight.

She attempted to return to acting last year, but later dropped out over health issues, according to Yonhap.

Kim’s body was discovered around 4:50 p.m. local time, the Korea Herald reported.

“We have not found any signs of foul play as of yet, but we are investigating the circumstances of the death,” police told the outlet.

Following her drunk driving collision, Kim was fined 20 million won ($13,850) and stopped taking on roles.

At the time, she also stepped down from her role in the drama series “Trolley,” according to the South China Morning Post.

Kim’s most recent release was starring in the Netflix action series “Bloodhounds” in 2023.

She also won numerous awards throughout her career and was honored as “Best New Actress” at several Korean arts awards ceremonies, according to her IMDB page.

Police are still investigating the cause of her death.
