HOOPESTON, Ill. (WCIA) — The Lorraine Theater in Hoopeston is making its mark in the city with a first run movie.

Last month, the building reopened and aired a few test movies. This will be the theater’s first time playing a movie that has been recently released. Yesterday was the first time in 15 years they’ve aired a first run movie.

The Lorraine Foundation President said the theater opened with nearly 200 people waiting to see Captain America: Brave New World. He said this 100-year-old building was a lot of work, but what makes it so special is combining the vintage feel and modern-day technology.

“So, we wanted the best of both worlds,” said Alex Houmes, Lorraine Foundation President. “You can get the nostalgic experience; you can get the latest laser projection; then you get the Dolby Atmos, which in today’s times, you can’t get much better than that.”

He said creating this experience for the public has always been the plan. The project cost more than $1.3 million. It added renovations to the building and new technology equipment.

The Captain America movie will be airing until this Sunday. Showtimes for Friday and Saturday are at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
