Chelsea are looking for revenge on Friday night when they travel to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.

The Blues were well beaten in their FA Cup fourth-round clash with the Seagulls last weekend as another silverware opportunity evaporated and Enzo Maresca’s men will be desperate to turn the corner at the American Express Stadium having made an unconvincing start to the new year.

Long-term injuries to forwards Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu are unlikely to aid Chelsea in their bid to rediscover their mojo, with the Blues likely to lean on the creativity and goalscoring prowess of talisman Cole Palmer on the south coast this Friday.

Here is how Chelsea could line up against Brighton.

GK: Filip Jorgensen – Robert Sanchez made an appearance against his former employers last time out but Jorgensen should return between the sticks on Friday as Maresca searches for greater defensive stability.

RB: Reece James – Maresca confirmed that James was only rested for the FA Cup defeat and is available for the Brighton rematch. He will be tested by the lively Kaoru Mitoma, who scored the winner last weekend.

CB: Tosin Adarabioyo – The summer recruit has started Chelsea’s last two outings and will fight with Trevoh Chalobah for a starting berth on Friday. Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana are nearing returns but won’t be available at the Amex Stadium.

CB: Levi Colwill – Colwill is one of Chelsea’s cohort of former Brighton players, although he was only ever on loan with the Seagulls from the Blues. He will be key to shoring up a defensive unit low on confidence.

LB: Marc Cucurella – Cucurella isn’t on particularly good terms with the Brighton faithful and will be put under pressure from the crowd on Friday as he prepares to battle the speedy Yankuba Minteh.

DM: Moises Caicedo – Yes, it’s another ex-Brighton player. Caicedo was one of Chelsea’s stronger performers in the cup and will be required to protect the back four against the in-form Georginio Rutter – who scored and assisted last Saturday.

DM: Enzo Fernandez – Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was offered a rare start in the FA Cup but will return to the bench for Friday’s Premier League contest. Fernandez will be restored to the starting XI having been a key contributor in the Blues’ most recent league victory over West Ham United.

RW: Pedro Neto – Couldn’t get the better of Tariq Lamptey in their weekend duel but the Portuguese is relentlessly persistent. He will pick himself up and go again this Friday should he get the nod ahead of Noni Madueke.

AM: Cole Palmer – With injuries in the forward line, Chelsea need Palmer to hit a purple patch more than ever. He’s without a goal or assist in his last four matches, although he has forced two own goals in that time.

LW: Jadon Sancho – Sancho is another who must step up to the plate and carry some of the goalscoring burden during Jackson’s recovery. He’s only managed two strikes in Chelsea colours.

ST: Christopher Nkunku – An ineffective performance against Brighton in the cup is unlikely to build confidence ahead of what is likely to be a string of starts for the Frenchman. He must take the opportunity provided if he wants to save his Blues career.
