ORLANDO, Fla. – Music and heartfelt words filled First Orlando Worship Center as the church, community, and others said their final goodbye to Lucy Pat Curl, who was brutally killed during a home invasion last month.

“She always had an ease about her,” said Rebecca Curl, Lucy Pat Curl’s granddaughter. ” he always made you feel like you could relax in her presence. She made you feel like you were needed. You had a purpose, even if that purpose was a simple setting table.”

During the funeral, the stage featured pictures of Lucy Pat Curl, her license plate, and her tandem yellow bike.

During the service, Lucy Pat Curl’s oldest son and grandchildren shared memories of their beloved “Mama Lucy.”

“Mama Lucy wasn’t afraid to push us, like making us ride 10 miles on bikes with matching T-shirts,” Rebecca Curl said during the service.

“She gave us joy. She had a positive spirit and energy no matter the circumstances, even while battling through cancer,” added Roger Rickman, Lucy Pat Curl’s grandson. “She lit up every room, and after any interaction with her, you would feel happy and a better person.”

While fighting back tears, the family also spoke about how Lucy Pat Curl was a devoted pastor’s wife, grandmother, and mother, and taught everyone she knew valuable lessons, including forgiveness.

“No one is beyond his love, if we can forgive,” said Phillip Curl, son of Lucy Pat Curl. “If we can learn that much, we can forgive each other as well. Maybe that’s the last most important lesson that she told us.”

The family is asking for anyone who still wants to support to donate to the scholarships in Lucy Pat’s honor. Donations can be sent to:

Fellowship of Christian Athletes online by clicking here or the First Life Center for Pregnancy and the Lucy Pat Curl Missions Scholarship Fund found here.

Ronald Davis, the man accused of killing Lucy Pat Curl, is facing murder charges. He’s also charged with another home invasion which happened in November. He is set to face a judge Monday morning.
