Viewers of The Chase expressed their frustration after a contestant’s decision to take the high offer backfired, with one branding it a “waste of time”.
The ITV game show, hosted by Bradley Walsh, featured Annaka, Tom, Debra, and Will competing against Mark Labbett, aka The Beast, during Tuesday’s (18 February) episode.
Annaka’s time on the show was notable for her bold decision to accept the high offer of £53,000, despite only accumulating £3,000 in the cash builder round due to struggling with questions.
While Bradley encouraged her choice, fans at home were less than impressed. On social media, one fan commented: “Don’t know why everyone gets excited when a poor player takes the high offer… that just felt like a waste of time #TheChase.” (sic)
Another viewer chimed in: “getting 3k on the cash builder and going big is my kind of delusion #thechase.” (sic)
A third fan praised Annaka’s willingness to take a risk but pointed out the importance of having sufficient quiz knowledge, saying: “Fair play for going big, but as I *might* have said before… don’t go on a quiz show if you have no quiz knowledge #thechase.” (sic)
Meanwhile, another fan bluntly stated: “She was useless – never in a million years was she going to win 53 grand there #thechase.” (sic)
However, some viewers of The Chase expressed delight that a contestant had chosen the high offer on the ITV show, a rare occurrence, reports Bristol Live.
One fan tweeted: “At least someone actually went for it #thechase.” While another concurred, saying: “Good for her going for the biggie #TheChase.” (sic)
A third enthusiastic viewer chimed in: “Yes! Finally someone taking The Chase seriously by taking the high offer! Hope she gets through! #TheChase.” (sic)
Despite Annaka’s elimination after facing The Beast, Debra secured £6,000 for herself and Tom, but unfortunately, they both left with nothing.
The Chase airs on weekdays on ITV1 from 5pm
