NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – U.S. Attorney for New Mexico Alexander Uballez confirmed Monday afternoon that he has resigned from his position. In a press release, the New Mexico Department of Justice announced Uballez resigned at President Donald Trump’s request.

Monday morning, he confirmed that he was one of the Biden-nominated U.S. attorneys who were locked out of their work devices.

Uballez learned he was locked out Friday afternoon. He told KRQE News 13 that he alerted the U.S. Department of Justice but received “no guidance.” The state’s U.S. Attorney’s Office is responsible for prosecuting federal crimes.

Before his termination, while speaking on the lockout, Uballez said he had “never heard of this happening before.”

U.S. attorneys are appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate.
