JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A newly obtained arrest report details a breakup dispute turned violent after a woman was charged with shooting another woman in the face at a stop light in Murray Hill over the weekend.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, 38-year-old Latorray Collins was arrested this past weekend on an attempted murder charge after shooting another woman in the face.
Officers responded to the shooting just after 10 p.m. and interviewed one of the witnesses who said he was once in an intimate relationship with the victim and recently broke up with the suspect, Collins. Throughout the day Saturday, the witness said Collins had been texting and calling him asking him to come pick up his belongings, but told her she can just toss them out.
According to the report, the witness then described to officers a night out with the victim where they planned to drive together to D’bo’s Daiquiris, Wings and Seafood on King Street. The witness told police he and the victim planned to meet family and friends, who were driving separately. On their way to the restaurant, driving along Edgewood Avenue, the witness said he received multiple phone calls from Collins, to which he did not answer.
As he and the victim passenger stopped at a red light at Edgewood Avenue and Post Street, he told officers he saw Collins drive around the passenger side of his car and “abruptly” turn in front of him, blocking them in. The witness told officers he reversed his vehicle and drove around Collins, continuing along Post Street.
The report states that when the witness and victim approached another red light at the corner of Post Street and McDuff Avenue, Collins got out of her car and walked up to the man’s vehicle and “aggressively” knocked out his window.
There was then a confrontation between Collins and the group in the car ahead of them, who the witness and victim planned to meet at the restaurant. The witness told officers he put himself between the arguing parties in hopes to deescalate the situation, and as he did, he was “surprised” by the sound of a gunshot. He then told officers he saw the victim fall to the ground.
The arrest report states other witnesses at the scene provided accounts that “mirrored” that of the first witness.
Collins was arrested and charged with attempted murder and booked into the Duval County Jail on a $250,000 bond. The victim was transported to the hospital Saturday night in critical condition.
