Pete Alonso hypes up Steve Cohen-owned NY TGL squad

Perhaps it’s a sign of things to come for the Mets.

Pete Alonso brought good luck to Steve Cohen’s TGL team on Tuesday night when he led the New York Golf Club into a match against Jupiter Links Golf Club.

Alonso, along with Cohen, Mets players Jeff McNeil and Brandon Nimmo, attended the TGL match at SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The venue is just a 30-minute drive from the team’s spring training facility in Port St. Lucie.

Alonso led the New York team, which includes Rickie Fowler, Matthew Fitzpatrick, and Cam Young, into the TGL Arena as the popular song “Narco” by Blasterjaxx and Timmy Trumpet played loudly over the PA system.

The song has become intertwined with the Mets and reliever Edwin Diaz, who uses it as his walkout music at Citi Field.

Alonso, the Mets first baseman, hyped up the New York Golf Club on the entire walk out into the arena before he fist-bumped each of the players.

Whether or not it was Alonso’s presence, the New York squad picked up its first win in the franchise’s history in a 10-3 victory over Jupiter, which is led by golf legend Tiger Woods.

“We did what we wanted to do coming out,” Fowler told the league website. “We wanted to get out to a better start than we have and get ahead. That’s a lot more fun than the last two matches in here, for sure.”

Along with the Mets, new Hall of Fame inductee CC Sabathia was on hand to watch the match.

McNeil has a strong connection with the sport of golf, being an enthusiast and having won the celebrity division of the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions in Orlando last year.

In 2023, McNeil competed in the New York State Open at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale during the MLB All-Star break.

MLB spring camps fully opened up this week, with plenty of expectations resting on the shoulders of the Mets and their star-studded roster.
