Alfredo Casanova is charged with felony burglary and grand theft for stealing the swans.

LAKELAND, Fla. — One of the two men accused of stealing a pair of black swans and their eggs from a mobile home park in Lakeland has turned himself in.

Alfredo Casanova turned himself in at the Polk County Jail around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. He is reportedly charged with felony burglary and grand theft for stealing the swans.

The swans, named Sterling and Luna, and their four eggs were stolen on Wednesday, Feb. 12  from the Highland Village Mobile Home Park at 375 Brannen Road in Lakeland. The theft reportedly happened between 9:04 p.m. and 9:43 p.m.

Sterling and Luna were found nearly a week later by CJ Webber, a swan enthusiast who said several people reached out to him asking if he knew about the capture. Shortly after, he said he got in contact with the swan snatchers who were remorseful and released the swans and their eggs to him.

Agricultural Crimes detectives with the sheriff’s office are still actively searching for the second suspect,  Jordan
Montoya. Anyone with knowledge of Montoya’s whereabouts can call detectives at 863-534-7205 or 863-298-6200. Tips can also be emailed to tips@polksheriff.org.
