A monthslong investigation has ended with a New Mexico couple going to jail, both of them facing multiple felony counts of child abuse against one of their own children.
Jammy Jackson, 58, and Patricia Madrid, 36, were both arrested on Feb. 18 after Child Protective Services investigated claims of alleged abuse by their 15-year-old daughter. According to court documents obtained by KRQE, a local CBS affiliate, the teenager said that she had allegedly been locked in an outdoor chicken coop for months and fed only packaged ramen noodles. The couple’s other children were not subjected to the same alleged treatment.
A press release posted by the Farmington Police Department stated that detectives were tipped off the investigation by Child Protective Services on Sept. 16, 2024, who had been alerted to concerns about the welfare of the 15-year-old. According to the Farmington Police, “Reports indicated the child had been locked in a chicken coop for extended periods and exposed to extreme weather conditions.”

The court documents revealed more alleged mistreatment of the teenager, including the allegation that she was fed only packaged ramen noodles while the other children in the household were able to eat whatever they wanted. The documents also alleged that the alleged victim was only allowed to use the bathroom twice a day.
Farmington police detectives were reportedly able to confirm the allegations made by the 15-year-old girl, and she was removed from the home. It was not made clear what happened to the other children who lived in the household.
Jackson and Madrid were arrested on Feb. 18 and charged with 14 felony counts including abuse of a child and conspiracy to commit child abuse. Both are being held at the San Juan County Adult Detention Center without bail.
