Creatures like snakes have evolved specifically to blend in with their environments – so are famously tricky to spot.

It looks like it could be temperate woodland, rather than a tropical rain-forest.

There are three native species of snake in the UK, although they are rarely seen by most of us.
Most common is the grass snake, which is also the biggest – growing up to 1.5m.
Then there’s the adder, which is the UK’s only native poisonous snake.
And, rarest of all, is the smooth snake – found in some heaths in southern England.
