ARTHUR, Ill. (WCIA) — The man accused of battering and trying to kidnap a teenager in Arthur this week is facing a new felony charge in connection to a crime he allegedly committed days earlier.

WCIA learned Wednesday that before Lester Raymind was arrested for battering and trying to kidnap a 16-year-old girl, he was arrested on Feb. 7 for another aggravated battery case involving a different woman.

Rob Kosic, the Douglas County State’s Attorney, told WCIA that Raymind was charged with misdemeanor battery, based on his knowledge of the victim’s injuries. Elliott Timmon, Arthur’s Chief of Police, told WCIA that the victim didn’t forward in time for Raymind’s initial court appearance.

“We weren’t aware of the extent of her injuries,” Kosic said. “It was after she went to the hospital that we became aware.”

Raymind was released under the provisions of the SAFE-T Act and 10 days later, he allegedly battered a teen at Roselen’s Coffee & Delights and tried to kidnap her. Kosic said Arthur Police are still investigating if there is a connection between the two battery cases.

Now that Kosic’s office is aware of the earlier victim’s injuries, Raymind’s earlier misdemeanor charge was upgraded to felony aggravated battery. He was arraigned in that case and the kidnapping case on Tuesday, where he was denied pretrial release.

Kosic said Raymind will be in court again on March 5 for both cases.
