Rep. Burchett: Congress to blame if Trump agenda fails

() President Donald Trump is at his strongest politically when he convinces himself and his followers they are victims, but he is “running out of villains” to blame and needs to find a new target after Joe Biden’s departure from Washington, ‘s Leland Vittert says.

In a White House press briefing Thursday, Trump officials touted the administration’s achievements in its first month, focusing on initiatives intended to promote energy independence, eliminate government diversity, equity and inclusion programs and reduce illegal immigration into the United States.

They also frequently criticized former President Biden, a move Vittert says will not distract Americans from issues impacting their lives, such as increasing grocery prices and the potential for a global conflict stemming from Russia’s stalled invasion of Ukraine, soon to enter its fourth year.

Tennessee Rep. Tim Burchett joined “On Balance” Thursday to discuss who or what could potentially fill that “villain” role. Burchett said that if the problems he sees facing Americans persist well into Trump’s term, it will be time to stop blaming Biden, but the fault still won’t lie at the feet of the current president.

“It won’t be Trump’s fault. It’ll be Congress’ fault,” Burchett said, citing disagreement and regional infighting between Republican delegations in the House of Representatives and the Senate. “We’ll pass some stupid omnibus (bill) if we aren’t careful.”

When pressed by Vittert if Trump should be immune from any criticism, Burchett said he wouldn’t blame Trump.

“None of this is (Trump’s fault),” the Republican congressman said. “If we listened to him, we’d be in a lot better shape.”
