Effingham, Ill. (WCIA) — It’s already been quite the season for Nancy Ruholl, who just became her schools all-time leading scorer in just her junior season.
She set the record in a 61-31 win earlier this month against Tuscola, passing Lucy Fearday with 1,656 points.
Ruholl wasn’t aware she was about to set history until the night before.
She hopes to inspire the next generation of basketball players at her school.
“It was really exciting and I liked that my teammates cheered me on and I couldn’t do without them because they’re always a big help in the games,” Ruholl said.
“I think it’s cool and I hope a lot of the younger girls will look up to it and they’ll want to play more and we’ll get more girls going out for basketball here at St. Anthony.”
Ruholl and the Bulldogs won a region championship with a 55-30 win over Altamont.
Ruholl is now eligible for a $1,000 scholarship we’ll give away to one boy and one girl at the end of the school year.
