Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Raykise O’Neal Green, 18, was arrested yesterday and charged with trying to enter an occupied apartment; he was previously arrested on January 30 for shoplifting.

The responding Gainesville Police Department officer reported that on February 16 at about 11:55 a.m., Green was seen on surveillance video in the 3500 block of SW 19th Avenue, walking past the victim’s apartment and slowly casing the occupied residence. A few seconds later, he allegedly moved quietly to the unlocked front door and opened it; when he saw the victim’s two large dogs, he reportedly ran.

On February 20, an officer spoke with a witness in the area of the victim’s apartment complex and showed the witness a photo from the surveillance video. The witness reportedly saw Green in the same area later in the day and called the police; at about 4:10 p.m., Green was arrested and was reportedly wearing the same clothes and shoes seen on the video.

Post Miranda, Green reportedly admitted opening the victim’s front door and said he believed the apartment was empty and was looking for a place to sleep.

Green was previously arrested on January 30 for allegedly walking out of Walmart with $123 in merchandise without paying; he was previously trespassed from the store on December 30. According to court documents, he told court officials that he is a Buchholz High School student who is homeless; he has no criminal convictions, and Judge Meshon Rawls released him on his own recognizance on January 31.

Green has now been charged with attempted burglary of an occupied dwelling. Judge Kristine Van Vorst ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold him without bail until trial.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
