KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Greyhound Retirement Foundation of Tennessee (GRFT) visited Kingsport on Saturday to find a home for four retired greyhounds.

The nonprofit volunteer-based organization aims to find homes for retired racing Greyhounds.

According to its website, the GRFT’s mission focuses on five objectives:

• To educate the public about the availability and suitability of retired racing Greyhounds as pets.
• To medically treat each Greyhound that goes into the program, including but not limited to spay/neuter surgeries, dental care, all shots, heartworm tests, and any other treatment deemed necessary.
• To find loving and qualified homes for all Greyhounds entrusted to us.
• To offer ongoing support to those who adopt Greyhounds.
• To promote harmony and cooperation between all segments of the worldwide Greyhound community.

GRFT launched in 2000. The organization is based in Knoxville.

It is our belief that racing greyhounds should all have a chance to be placed into loving, responsible homes at the end of their careers. Our mission is to inform the public about the retired racers, show them to be the beautiful, gentle animals that they are, and make a difference in the lives of as many retired racers as possible. We believe that racing greyhounds deserve every chance to become a treasured family member at the end of their racing careers, and will strive to provide the best possible homes for them.
