Simon Guobadia has been in the news quite a bit since early last year, thanks to his ongoing divorce from the Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Williams. Most of the drama has been fairly minuscule, but that is no longer the case. Now, the Nigerian-born businessman has been detained by ICE. Since the news broke, Porsha has issued a reaction. 

Fans will recall that Porsha and Simon tied the knot in November 2022. Sadly, in February 2024, it was announced that the RHOA star had filed for divorce. Following this, the two became engaged in a very public social media war.

According to US Weekly, Simon is currently being detained by ICE at the Stewart Detention Center in Limpkin, Georgia, as of February 21st. This comes after the mass deportation efforts of the current Trump administration, which began in January. So far, the efforts have seen thousands of undocumented immigrants being detained and then deported

As mentioned, Simon is from Nigeria and first moved to the United States in 1982 on a work visa. However, he overstayed that visa and was deemed deportable by 1985. Still, he came back to the US the following year. From there, Simon was arrested multiple times, and officials deported him again in 1992, which saw him staying in Nigeria for a month before returning to the US. 

Fast forward several years, and he applied for naturalization in 2016, but the U.S. government denied his application. According to WSB TV,  he spent years appealing the decision but to no avail and his latest application to become a U.S. citizen was just denied in January of 2025. This is what led Simon to find himself detained by ICE this most recent time. 

Following the report, Porsha took to her Instagram to react to the news. She said in her now deleted post, “It’s disheartening to see my estranged husband make choices that have led to this outcome. At this moment, my priority is moving forward with my family.”
