An American living in the UK left Britons puzzled after sharing his ‘crazy’ hack for travellers to London.

Miles Mitchell, aged 22 and hailing from Staten Island, New York, recently used his Instagram account to reveal a travel tip that left him feeling ‘shocked’ during his visit to London.

In the clip, which racked up over 4,000 views, Miles visited a Tesco to purchase a meal deal for lunch.

Miles, who works as a Timothée Chalamet look-alike, was amazed by the price of a sandwich, snack and a drink as part of the popular deal.

In the video, he said: ‘My favourite thing after moving to London from New York City was you could walk into any Tesco and choose between a sandwich, a wrap, some fruit and get that with a snack and a drink and it is £3.60, which is the equivalent of $4.

‘So you can get a sandwich and a drink, and by a drink [I mean] any kind of drink, even a Naked which in the US alone is like $5, or even a protein shake.

‘You can get a candy bar, or a protein bar and even one with like 40g of protein, which again in the US is so expensive and you can get all that for £3.60.

‘This blew my mind when I was in London. Save this for the next time you are in the UK.’

He captioned the clip: ‘Crazy London Travel Hack! Making this video because I genuinely was so shocked that this was a thing when I lived in London.

‘Especially coming from NYC and being told London is also a very expensive city.  While that still is true I was surprised learning that there are easily accessible options for people to afford food.

‘To my knowledge NYC doesn’t offer anything like this. All of my friends would make fun of me because I would not shut up about this for like two weeks straight.’

Many Brits, who are very much aware of the famous meal deal, rushed to the comments to tell Miles about some of the other perks of living in Britain.

One person wrote: ‘If you like a meal deal wait until you hear about free healthcare.’

Another said: ‘Note you can also get a hot drink (tea, coffee, hot chocolate) out of the vending machine and it’s included as your drink option.’

Someone else said: ‘Another tip if it you are traveling here you probably don’t have a clubcard which makes it cheaper.

‘So just ask another customer next to you if they can swipe there’s. You get the discount and they get the reward points.’

A fourth added: ‘And you don’t even need to tip the cashier in Tesco more savings.’

Others were quick to tell Miles that Tesco isn’t the only store that offers a meal deal lunch option.

One person said: ‘Wait till he finds out it’s not just Tesco that does meal deals but coop and so many other stores.’

Another added: ‘Not just tesco buddy, can get this in dozens of different brand supermarkets and corner shops. Tesco isn’t all that.’

Someone else added: ‘Meal deals are the best, but M&S sandwiches are far superior to Tesco.’

For his meal deal Miles choose the sausage, bacon and egg triple, a Naked smoothie and a protein Kind bar.

It comes after Tesco unveiled its most popular meal deal combination for 2024 – but fans were left less-than-impressed by the supermarket’s latest results.

Tesco has brought back its much-loved year in review: Clubcard Unpacked.

The personalised annual shopping summary will see more than 18 million Clubcard members receive their round-up from 6 January.

For the past two years, the nation’s go-to combination for Tesco’s lunchtime Meal Deal has been Tesco Sausage Bacon & Egg Triple, McCoy’s Flame Grilled Steak Grab Bag Crisps 45g and Coca-Cola 500ml.

However, a new favourite Meal Deal took the top spot in 2024, which saw a particularly drastic change in the preferred snack of many fans.

Two of the three components have been replaced with new winners, with Tesco Chicken Club Sandwich emerging as the go-to main, Tesco Egg Protein Pot as the most popular snack, along with the returning top drink of Coca-Cola 500ml.

The top combination has sparked much conversation in previous years, with many shocked at the results – but last year’s roundup has ultimately left dozens of fans scratching their heads.

Taking to X, one fan, who goes by @girls0nthebeach uploaded a screengrab of Tesco’s roundup on 6 January, alongside the caption: ‘

The post has since sparked prompted dozens of Meal Deal lovers to share their thoughts – with many appearing to be taken aback by the popularity of the egg pot, as opposed to crisps, nuts or chocolate as the top snack.

Some even went as far as to condemn customers who regularly consume the protein-filled pot, as one person branded them ‘psychos.’

One fan exclaimed, ‘Egg! Over crisps or chocolate??’ while another said, ‘There’s no way this is right.’

Rating the roundup, another wrote: ‘3/10, the egg kiboshes it, decent sandwich, coke is a low scorer on its own, but what on earth were they thinking???’

Another fumed: ‘Chicken club is ok… regular coke is meh. but EGG PROTEIN POT is actually sick. this is not normal. who the f**k is buying that?’
