CARYVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Groups are offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person or people who poached an elk in the North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area (NCWMA), the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency announced.

On Saturday afternoon, officials received a call about an elk carcass found on the Royal Blue Unit of NCWMA, a place locally known as the Red Ash/Wheeler Gap area. After the call, a wildlife manager arrived on the scene and located the remains.

The elk appeared to have been shot within the last few days. Multiple parts of the elk were removed from the carcass. The incident is under investigation.

The reward offer is from the Pine Mountain Long Beards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, the Campbell Outdoor Recreation Association and the Tennessee Wildlife Federation.
