Netflix‘s new political thriller Zero Day focuses on the fallout of a major cyber attack that turns off everyone in America’s phones, electricity, and more. To find the terrorists responsible, the U.S. government asks former, beloved, President George Mullen (Robert De Niro) to lead a special commission with unlimited power. The one problem? Mullen is secretly battling multiple signs of dementia.

By the end of Zero Day Season 1’s six episodes, we learn the truth about what’s really going on with George Mullen’s mind, who was really behind the Zero Day attack, and what President Mullen decided to do about it all. Nevertheless, there are multiple loose ends at the end of Zero Day. So is Netflix planning on making a Zero Day Season 2?

Zero Day was intended as a limited series, but could Netflix renew it for a second season? Will we learn more about Proteus? What’s next for Dan Stevens‘s charismatic television host Evan Green? Will the architects of Zero Day be sentenced to death for treason? Or is there more to this story?

Here’s everything we know about a potential Zero Day Season 2 on Netflix…

Will There Be a Zero Day Season 2 on Netflix?

Probably not, but there’s a glimmer of possibility for a Zero Day Season 2.

When DECIDER spoke with Zero Day executive producers Noah Oppenheim and Eric Newman, they both confirmed that the initial plan was to wrap up the story in six episodes. However, they both also admitted that a part of them has been contemplating a potential Season 2.

“I think we’ve told a complete story. At least, we feel like we have, but I think both of us have ideas about where these characters might be, and I think also how the world might react,” Noah Oppenheim said. “I mean, that’s the other interesting thing. The series ends with George Mullen obviously making a pretty dramatic decision with wide-ranging consequences. And we every now and then chat about what could happen in the world.”

“There’s also, I think, a part of us that’s like, ‘It’s not our problem what happens next,’” Eric Newman said with a laugh, before admitting that now that the cast has reunited to promote the series, there’s the temptation to keep going with the story.

“You think, ‘God, I would love to spend another nine months with these people,’” Newman said. “That’s sort of been, more than anything, the impetus for like, yeah, maybe we can do another season.”

“But you know, many rivers to cross. Let’s get it out first and see what the world thinks.”

Zero Day is currently in the Netflix Top 10 in the United States.

When Will Zero Day Season 2 Premiere on Netflix?

Supposing Netflix does move forward with Zero Day Season 2, we probably wouldn’t see it until 2027. The first season of Zero Day was announced in 2022, with production starting in 2023.
