THE Taliban has issued a major update on a British couple who were arrested in Afghanistan earlier this month.

Peter Reynolds, 79, and his wife Barbie, 75, were arrested on 1 February on their way back home to the Bamiyan province.

The tyrannical group has today said it will aim to release the Brits “as soon as possible”.

In a statement, Taliban official Abdul Mateen Qani told the BBC: “A series of considerations is being taken into account, and after evaluation, we will endeavour to release them as soon as possible.”

The pair were reportedly detained for teaching parenting skills to mothers.

An Afghan and an American national were also arrested at the same time.

Peter and Barbie Reynolds ran training schools in Afghanistan for 18 years, despite the rise of the tyrannical group in 2021.

The British couple, who married in Kabul in 1970, have had their home in Nayak raided by cops, The Sunday Times reports.

Employees at their training schools were also interrogated by the Taliban’s police.

The couple’s family have desperately pleaded for their release.

Their daughter Sarah Entwistle, from Northamptionshire, revealed heartbreaking details about their terrifying arrest.

The pair were initially able to message their four children but the texts stopped after three days.

Peter and Barbie told their kids they were detained at the interior ministry, before their lines went down.

Sarah told The Sunday Times: “This is really bad.

“My mother is 75 and my father almost 80 and [he] needs his heart medication after a mini-stroke.

The couple ran five schools in Kabul, including a mother and children training school which was reportedly approved by The Taliban.

Barbie had even become the first woman to be recognised with a certificate of appreciation from the Taliban regime.

Sarah added: “They were just trying to help the country they loved.

“The idea they are being held because they were teaching mothers with children is outrageous.”

Peter and Barbie’s four children have sent a letter to the Taliban begging the horror group to let their parents go.

Sarah and her three brothers also emphasised that the couple were dual British and Afghan nationals.

The letter said: “We do not understand the reasons behind their arrest.

“They have communicated their trust in you, and that as Afghan citizens they will be treated well.”
