GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jade Amari Ramsay, 29, was arrested last night after allegedly becoming upset at Walmart; standing on checkout counters while dancing and yelling; refusing to leave; damaging a cash register; and resisting officers’ attempts to handcuff her, including kicking two officers.

At about 10:04 p.m. on February 23, Gainesville Police Department officers responded to the Walmart at Butler Plaza and reportedly found Ramsay sitting on top of a refrigerator unit, causing a disturbance.

A store manager reportedly told an officer that Ramsay got upset when she found that she was unable to pay for all her merchandise and climbed up on a checkout counter, dancing and yelling. He said her actions were disruptive to the business, and he asked her several times to leave, but she continued causing a disturbance. He said she started getting aggressive with employees and then sat on top of a refrigerator unit and yelled and cursed at people nearby; she also allegedly damaged a cash register, valued at $200.

After officers arrived, she was reportedly told to get down but did not comply. After she was detained, she allegedly resisted being handcuffed by tensing her body and holding her arm away from the officer; it took two officers to secure her hands while she allegedly continued to resist. She allegedly kicked two officers in the legs several times and tried to bite officers. Throughout the interaction with the officers, she allegedly twisted her body, flailed her legs, became dead weight, and continuously yelled.

Ramsay has been charged with resisting an officer with violence, battery on an officer, failure to leave a property upon order from the owner, resisting an officer without violence, property damage under $200, and disorderly conduct. She has no criminal convictions but was arrested on October 25 for domestic battery and released on $2,000 bail. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $21,000 on the new charges.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
