BRUNSWICK, Ga. () — Glynn County officials announced that they will be opting in on House Bill 581 (HB 581) and said that residents on the current exemption can choose between the two.

“Glynn County’s decision aligns with the expressed will of its residents—62.7% of those
casting ballots voted in favor of HB 581 during the November 2024 election,” a county spokesperson said.

Those using the Scarlett Williams exemption will be able now compare and select the
option that best suits their financial needs.

“There has been some confusion about what this means for taxpayers,” said Commissioner
Walter Rafolski. “The bottom line is that staying in HB 581 provides more choices, not
fewer, for our residents. We are listening to the voters, who supported this measure by a
wide margin.”

The Board also has no plans to introduce a Floating Local Option Sales Tax (FLOST), the spokesperson said.

“This decision is about ensuring transparency and providing stability for Glynn County
taxpayers,” said Commissioner Wayne Neal. “By staying in HB 581, we are maintaining the
exemptions already in place while also offering additional flexibility for homeowners.”
