PAXTON, Ill. (WCIA) — Paxton is making some improvements to the area after City Council approved a street repair project.

They’ll be resurfacing and clearing up potholes, and Mayor Bill Ingold said it’d be great if they could repair every street. So, they’re spending more than they normally do to help more areas of town. The project is estimated to cost $460,000.

City Council will be using money from the Rebuild Illinois Grant and the city’s general fund.
Eleven streets will be reconstructed this year.

“We walk a lot in the summertime and when it’s warm outside,” said community member Brookail Jennings. “So, more times than not, if there’s not sidewalks, we’re on the road. So, the potholes kind of deter us from our journey.”

The project’s cost will include $36,800 for engineering design, $27,600 towards construction and $395,600 will be for the street repair.

Ingold said they’re waiting for a construction crew to complete the job. Below is a list of the streets that are set to be finished:

  • West State Street, from Plum to Cherry Streets, for $27,557.
  • Technology Drive, from Ottawa Road to the east driveway to the north, for $25,577.
  • South Winter Street, from Patton to Orleans Streets, for $24,701.
  • East Holmes Street, from Railroad Avenue to Vermilion Street, for $20,648.
  • North Elm Street, from the west leg of State Street to Holmes Street, for $18,153.
  • Cherry Street intersections, at Orleans and Pells Streets, for $52,555.
  • South Elm Street, from Ottawa Road to Franklin Street, for $33,406.
  • East Larson Street, from Vermilion to Union Streets, for $36,614.
  • Elm Street, from Center Street to the west leg of State Street, for $64,674.
  • West Holmes Street, from American to Taft Streets, for $30,934.
