An Uber driver significantly injured in a crash that claimed the life of his passenger has been overwhelmed by support as he recovers in hospital.

In a single day, more than $100,000 was raised for 25-year-old Muhammad Usman, who remains in the Royal Perth Hospital after the crash in Dalkeith on February 15.

Renowned doctor Rhys Bellinge, 45, was driving his blue Jaguar sedan when it collided with Usman’s Honda Jazz hatchback, killing the Uber driver’s passenger, 24-year-old Elizabeth Pearce.

Usman, who has no family in Perth, wants to bring at least one of his parents to Australia from Pakistan as he recovers from severe injuries, including broken legs and a fractured hand.

“As the eldest sibling in my family, a lot depended on me,” he said in an online appeal for help.

“I had a bright future ahead, with a job interview scheduled for the Monday following the accident.

“Tragically, this opportunity was taken away from me in an instant.

” … Every single donation, no matter how small, will make a difference in my journey to heal and rebuild my life.”

The recent civil engineering graduate disabled donations late today after $114,257 was raised, saying he was staggered by the support.

“I am truly blessed to be surrounded by such caring and compassionate individuals,” he said.

“Your belief in me and my journey means the world, and I am excited for the future ahead, knowing I have such an incredible community behind me.”

Bellinge remains behind bars charged with manslaughter and causing grievous bodily harm.
