McALLEN, Texas (Border Report) — Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facilities in Texas are holding the most immigrants, according to new data.

There were 38,919 people detained as of Feb. 8 nationwide, and over a quarter, or 10,881, were held in Texas detention facilities, according to new data released by Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC).

So far in Fiscal Year 2025, ICE has relied on detention facilities in Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana to house the most people, TRAC reports.

This includes large numbers held at the South Texas ICE Processing Center in Pearsall, and Port Isabel ICE facility in South Texas. As of Feb. 8, there were 1,680 immigrants held in Pearsall, and 980 in Fort Isabel, TRAC reports.

Seven detention centers in the Lone Star State were among the nation’s top 20 facilities and each are holding over 800 people for ICE, according to an analysis of TRAC data.

The Adams County Detention Center in Natchez, Mississippi, however, holds the most ICE detainees, averaging 2,154 per day, according to TRAC.

The current number of detention beds nationwide is 42,000.

But the Trump administration wants Congress to approve additional funds to increase the number of beds as part of his promise of mass detentions and deportations in the United States.
