New Zealand-born singer Lorde has just dropped a new Māori language single in collaboration with fellow Kiwi Marlon Williams.

The 28-year-old hitmaker—real name Ella Yelich-O’Connor—took to her social media on Wednesday to give fans a preview of the new tune called Kāhore He Manu E.

In the video, Lorde can be seen performing the gentle ballad in a studio.

The song appears on Williams, 34, new album Te Whare Tīwekaweka, which he recorded in Māori.

‘An honour to sing on Marlon’s beautiful waiata,’ she captioned her post.

She also shared a touching tribute to Williams in the Instagram share.

‘The love I have for our prodigal son knows no bounds—I consider him whanau,’ she began.

‘Marly Marl watching you find the edges of your ability and then expand past them over and over again makes my life richer.

‘Thank you for trusting me with this corner of your incredible album.’

She included a photo of herself sitting close by Williams while they worked on the album in the studio.

Meanwhile, Williams posted his own thank you to Lorde on his Instagram as well as sharing the inspiration for the song which is dedicated to a family member.

‘It’s an absolute treat to be laying this one on your lap,’ he said.

‘It’s a short sweet ballad about relationships and the difficulties of preserving them when they’re stretched on the rack of space and time.

‘Singing with Ella is one of the nicest things life has offered up for me to do. Dedicated to the loving memory of my Nana Rīpeka.’

It comes after Lorde updated her social media in December with a single post after deleting everything from the account.

The singer shared a rare bikini selfie as she sat in a Toyota car during a visit to New Zealand.

One photo showed Lorde behind the wheel of the vehicle while wearing a red and white graphic strapless print swimwear top.

She added a pair of white jeans, as well as a cap with writing across the front and sunglasses.

A second image showed Lorde riding in a helicopter, again in sunnies, with a stunning view outside the window.

In her caption, the Royals hitmaker simply added an emoji wearing sunglasses and a tree.

Fellow pop star Taylor Swift has employed a similar tactic when teasing new album releases, and recently, Lorde has also embraced a more cryptic approach in her posts.

The Grammy Award-winning songwriter debuted two new tracks during her set at England’s Boardmasters Festival in 2023.

According to Vulture, the hitmaker played a pair of songs said to have been titled Silver Moon and Invisible Ink, although she later denied that those were the final names.

Although many fans suspected Lorde was planning on releasing a new album, she took to her Instagram account at the time to express she did not have a major project in the works.

She wrote: ‘This is not the start of anything out there, just want u to know there’s a light on inside me.’

When another fan commented that the hitmaker was trying to mislead her fanbase, she doubled down on her original denial.

‘I’m serious literally just decided to set these free from my laptop… but they’re not bad eh,’ she wrote.

Lorde’s most recently-released album Solar Power made its debut in August of 2021.
