Investigators say John Jenkins, 68, was caught on an in-home camera feed hitting and kicking the victim, who is unable to speak or walk.

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida home health care nurse is facing charges after investigators discovered video evidence showing the suspect abusing a disabled patient more than 25 times, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said in a release Wednesday.

Investigators say John Jenkins, 68, was caught on an in-home camera feed hitting and kicking the victim, who is unable to speak or walk and requires constant care.

On Feb. 8, deputies responded to the Palm Coast residence regarding a battery after a reporting party said she overheard the suspect “becoming verbally aggressive towards the victim,” the release states.

Investigators say the witness told responding deputies she had a “gut feeling” and reviewed in-home video footage, which showed Jenkins kick and strike the victim with an iPad.

The following day, the witness told investigators she discovered more than 25 other instances of Jenkins abusing the victim in just the previous week through video surveillance.

Jenkins was seen sitting on the victim, throwing items, punching and shoving the victim’s head on the ground, among other things, according to investigators.

A warrant for Jenkins’ arrest was obtained on Feb. 19 for four counts of abuse on a disabled adult. Investigators coordinated with the Daytona Beach Police Department to take Jenkins into custody.

He was arrested at his home on Feb. 21 and taken to Volusia County Branch Jail. He was released on a $40,000 bond.

“This is a tragic and sickening case of abuse, where a vulnerable adult was taken advantage of by someone entrusted with their care,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “We are grateful to the family member who had the foresight to place cameras inside the home, and then quickly reported the ongoing abuse of a disabled adult.”
