BOSTON — As a general rule, Patrick Roy leaves the goalies alone.
Despite Roy’s expertise, he usually lets the goalie coaches handle the training for the Islanders goalies. Surprisingly, he often disclaims his judgment on the position by saying, “I’m not a good person to judge that.”
Therefore, it was quite striking to witness Roy, a legendary NHL goalie, providing advice to Ilya Sorokin in the goal on Wednesday. This action underscores Sorokin’s current struggles, as he has conceded 5, 4, 5, and 4 goals in his recent four games. Despite concerns about his performance last year, Sorokin’s save percentage has now fallen to .902.
“We talked about traffic play,” Sorokin told The Post. “And he said his thoughts about how I should play these moments. Try to do this.”
