Labor MP's bold switch as government targets Liberal stronghold

The games have begun ahead of South Australia’s next state election, with a long-serving Labor MP announcing he’ll run in a new electorate.

Tony Piccolo believes he can take Ngadjuri from the Liberal Party, and today benefitted from some local school funding announced by Premier Peter Malinauskas.

The state government unveiled a $10 million commitment for an upgrade to the Two Wells Primary School, including the replacement of a dilapidated fence that has been a source of concern for parents and the community for over three decades.

The boost for the area didn’t stop there, with an additional announcement of an increased police presence in the Two Wells area.

Piccolo’s decision to challenge sitting Liberal MP Penny Pratt in the seat comes after the margin narrowed to a mere 3.3 per cent at the last election, making next year’s contest highly competitive.

The government has denied claims it’s splashing cash in the electorate to appeal to voters at the election, saying this was about investing in a high-growth area.
